Overview of Lipsuction

Liposuction
Objective: get rid of fatty deposits around the thighs, hips, and abdomen caused by an inherited genetic tendency or due to pregnancy-related weight-gain.

Suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL)-  one end of a tube is inserted into the area of unwanted fat which has been infiltrated with large volumes of saline to lessen bleeding and bruising. The other end is attached to a machine that creates a strong vacuum. The fatty tissue is removed by manipulating the tube within the fat layers.

Ultrasound-assisted lipectomy (UAL) - the application of ultrasonic energy to adipose (fat) tissue which effectively "liquefies" the fat, which, in turn, can be removed using a low vacuum suction. UAL is a gentler technique which allows a larger volume of fat to be removed. The patient may experience less bruising, blood loss, and swelling, resulting in a faster recovery time than with traditional liposuction.
